Termites cause damage to homes and buildings every year worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Most termite pests in Australia are ground dwelling or what is commonly known as subterranean. Termites live in a colony which can contain several million individual termites alone. Termites can travel one hundred metres or more through mud tubes or galleries from their main colony to a particular food source, eg your home. These colonies can be very difficult to find and are sometimes located in trees, walls and under floors of homes.

New colonies are established when winged termites fly from the colony in their thousands when climatic conditions are favourable, usually between November through to February.

A colony consists of 4 castes each with their individual role.

The king and queen are the original winged reproductives that have flown from a previous colony to establish a colony of their own. It takes the king and queen of most species usually 3 to 5 years to produce a large number of termites to cause any significant damage to a home or food source.
Workers are responsible for damage caused to timber, maintaining and building the colony and feeding all other castes.
Soldiers are often used to identify the species of termite. They are responsible for protecting the colony and all its castes from invasion of other insects.
Alates are winged reproductives or future kings and queens that fly from the nest in their thousands when conditions are favourable to establish new colonies.

CONTROL METHODS

Since the demise of the organochlorine residual chemical compounds the pest control industry has gone through some drastic changes. We have seen the release of new control methods such as the Exterra and Sentricon Termite Baiting and Monitoring Systems. These systems have been a breath of fresh air to our industry and the environment. The systems will not only eliminate active termites that are feeding on your home, they will also detect and eliminate termite colonies within the grounds of your property, prior to them entering your home.

We have chosen to adopt baiting and monitoring systems as our main method of termite control, replacing conventional termite control methods that require spraying hundreds of litres of toxic residual chemical sprays in and around your home.

See for yourself a list of benefits of the baiting and monitoring systems compared to liquid chemical barriers:

Baiting & Monitoring Systems
Most Chemical Barrier Treatments
Minor amount of non toxic ingredient containing proven colony elimination properties applied only when termites are intercepted, reducing risk of soil contamination and environmental impact.
Hundreds of litres of residual chemicals applied to soil possibly causing contamination and health & environmental concerns.
No need to evacuate home.
Temporary evacuation from your home due to toxic vapors.
No need to cut timber flooring to install stations.
Cutting and drilling of floor boards to apply chemicals.
Highly reduced risk of adverse effects on non target species as all active ingredients contained within sealed stations.
Possible adverse effects on non target insects and animals.
Monitoring stations are constantly on guard to detect foraging termites.
Incomplete and poorly applied barriers resulting in termite re-infestation on home
Suitable to all construction types.
Some construction types make continual chemical barriers impossible.
One off set up fee only on initial installation.
Costly chemical re-applications every 3-10 years due to chemical degradation.

Take a look at our Termite Baiting and Monitoring Systems:

Baiting & Monitoring Options

Scenario 1:
Termites have been found in your home or yard

Stage 1 Full inspection carried out in accordance with the Australian Standard to determine damage and extent of the infestation.
Stage 2 Installation of above ground stations directly onto termite activity and workings.
Stage 3 Installation of in ground & in concrete monitoring stations every 3 to 4 metres around the external of your home.
Stage 4 Monitoring of above ground and in ground & in concrete stations until colony elimination has been achieved.
Stage 5 Removal of above ground stations.
Stage 6 Continual monitoring of external in ground & in concrete stations to detect and protect your home against foraging termites from other colonies.

Scenario 2:
There are no termites in your home or yard & you would like peace of mind

Stage 1 Full inspection carried out in accordance with the Australian Standard
Stage 2 Installation of in ground & in concrete monitoring stations every 3 to 4 metres around the external of your home.
Stage 3 The choice of continual monitoring of the stations by us or we can show you how to monitor the stations yourself and supply you with the required tools.
Stage 4 If termites are found in external stations while carrying out routine inspection by either you or us, we commence a baiting program immediately.
Stage 5 Monitoring of stations and re-baiting until colony elimination has been achieved. Replace bait with fresh timber interceptors.
Stage 6 Resume in ground and in concrete station monitoring to detect and protect your home against foraging termites from other colonies.
