About Millipedes

Millipedes are found in situations where moist decaying organic matter is prevalent.  They seem to be attracted to light coloured surfaces and are found more so around houses with light brick work and concrete.  The females lay 20 to 300 eggs in the soil during their life time.  They are a seasonal pest preferring climatic conditions such as spring.  Millipedes do not contain a bite or sting but can produce a staining fluid that is repellent to some insects.

Millipede Control Methods

The reduction of organic matter around the home such as mulch and leaves will assist in reducing the number of millipedes found.  The application of residual wettable powder insecticide such as Bendiocarb and Carbral where adults and larvae are found, such as garden beds and around external perimeters of homes has proved to be the most affective treatment.
