About Fleas

Fleas are blood sucking insects that prefer warm humid conditions and can be found both indoors and outdoors.  The female lays 4 to 8 eggs after each blood meal and the majority of the time these are laid on the host commonly being animals such as dogs, cats and birds etc.  She lays several hundred eggs in her life time.  Their bites cause irritation and are responsible for disease transmission such as the bubonic plague during the middle ages.

Flea Control Methods

Good hygiene practices for pets such as approved flea washes and routine washing of animals bedding and sleeping quarters are essential to controlling and preventing flea infestations.  The most common control of flea outbreaks is the application of synthetic pyrethroid insecticides to all surface and flea harbourage areas.  Some severe infestations may require several treatments to control and eliminate fleas.
